This is an unusual cake as the baking soda foams up like crazy. It's fun to make.
It's very popular here. Since it's very moist, I don't ice it.
Sift into a large bowl the flour, sugar, salt, cinnamon, ginger and cloves.
Add oil, molasses and eggs and mix thoroughly.
Make sure you have everything ready before proceeding as you have to work fast. Have a rectangular cake pan buttered, oven preheated to 325 degrees, and batter well mixed.
Rapdily dissolve baking soda into boiling water. Pour into batter and mix rapidly. Pour into buttered pan and place in oven.
Bake for 40 minutes. Cool on rack.
